You've bought a high-quality, handcrafted boomerang, thrown it full of anticipation – and it doesn't come back? Don't worry, this happens to many beginners! A boomerang's flight is a combination of technique, wind, and throwing angle. In this article, we'll show you what to pay attention to so that your boomerang flies the perfect circle and returns to you.

1. Have you watched our instructions and the video?

Before you read on, it's worth taking a look at our throwing guide. There we explain the most important basics of throwing a boomerang. Additionally, our video will help you better understand the movements.

If you bought the boomerang from us, detailed instructions are included, and you'll also find a QR code on the instructions linking to the video on YouTube . Otherwise, feel free to visit our website where we explain everything: Throwing Instructions .

2. The correct throwing technique

A common mistake when throwing a boomerang is incorrect posture and throwing technique. Here are some key points to keep in mind:

Boomerang tilt angle

  1. Tilted too far to the right (almost horizontal): The boomerang rises too high and loses its trajectory.
  2. Completely vertical or tilted to the left : The boomerang flies downwards and may hit the ground before completing its arc.
  3. Optimal angle : Hold the boomerang slightly tilted to the right (about 10–20° from the vertical) so that it has a stable flight path.
  4. TIP : Some throwers start with the correct angle, but then rotate their wrist immediately before release. Please pay attention to this and keep the wrist angle fixed.

The correct target height

  1. The boomerang should be thrown straight ahead or slightly upwards.
  2. One trick is to use a tree as a visual target. This way you can try different heights and find the best flight path.

rotation

Give the boomerang enough rotation when throwing it so that it has enough energy to spin completely back towards you.

3. The wind – the decisive factor

Wind plays a major role in flying a boomerang. The following points will help you make the best use of the wind:

  1. Don't throw with the wind : If you throw in the direction of the wind, the boomerang often becomes unstable and doesn't return.
  2. Optimal throwing angle to the wind : Stand facing the wind and throw the boomerang approximately 45° to the right against the wind.
  3. No wind? If it is completely windless, you should throw more forcefully so that the boomerang has enough energy for its flight path.
  4. Determining wind direction : If you are unsure which direction the wind is coming from, you can throw a few blades of grass into the air and observe which direction they are blown.

4. Additional exercise tips

Several techniques can help you optimize your throwing motion:

  1. Arm movement : Do not throw the boomerang straight forward, but at a slight angle of 45° to the right.
  2. Keep your upper body stable : Make sure your upper body stays straight and you don't twist too much.
  3. Experiment : Try different combinations of throwing angle, force, and wind direction to achieve the best result.

5. Every boomerang is different

You've experimented thoroughly and found the optimal angle and rotation for, say, Munich? Perfect, congratulations! The great thing is that every boomerang has slightly different characteristics. The basic principles are the same, but you have to adjust to each boomerang individually.

6. Conclusion – Practice makes perfect

Properly handling a boomerang requires some patience and practice. But once you understand the technique, it's incredibly fun! If your boomerang doesn't return despite all our tips, feel free to send us a short video. This will help us better identify the problem and provide targeted assistance.

Have fun throwing and practicing!
