This is how you throw a boomerang
5-Step Guide

Step 1: The Handle
Hold the boomerang loosely between your thumb and forefinger. The logo should face you.
The logo is on the sanded "top side" of our boomerangs; the bottom side is often completely flat. If it feels more comfortable, you can also wrap your forefinger around the front of the boomerang.

Step 2: The Handle
Hold the boomerang almost vertically, only slightly (0°–20°) tilted to the right.
The most common beginner's mistake: Many instinctively hold the boomerang horizontally, like a frisbee. But then the boomerang just flies upwards instead of completing a nice loop. Therefore, throw vertically and keep the throwing angle stable, so you don't tilt the boomerang horizontally just before throwing.

Step 3: The Wind
Stand in such a way that you cast 45° to the right against the wind.
This is crucial even with barely perceptible breezes. With stronger winds, you can even cast up to 90° to the right.
Tips: Stand so that the wind blows directly into your face from the front, then turn slightly to the right – that's usually enough. Unsure of the wind direction? Drop some grass and see where it blows.

Step 4: The Drop
Aim slightly above the horizon and throw the boomerang forward over your wrist with a lot of spin.
When throwing, lunge forward to give the boomerang as much speed as possible.
Tips: Many beginners throw too steeply into the sky – but the throw should be almost horizontal to the ground. Use a distant tree on the horizon as a target to find the correct throwing height. The spin gives the boomerang its stability in flight – you can best generate it with a whipping motion from the wrist.

Step 5: The Catch

Jetzt weißt du alles was du brauchst. Raus mit dir auf die Wiese und Viel Spaß!!
So left-handers throw
As a left-hander, you simply do everything in mirror image: tilt the boomerang to the left and throw it 45°–90° against the wind to the left. Our left-handed boomerangs have their own special cut for this purpose and, of course, come with their own left-handed throwing instructions – so you don't need to remember anything here.
Pitching Conditions

The perfect place
A large, flat lawn with plenty of space – ideal for throwing boomerangs. No trees, paths, cars or people nearby: good for the boomerang and for your joints.

The Perfect Wind
Ideally, there should be a light, steady breeze coming from one direction. This is how you find the wind direction: Drop some grass and watch where it's blown.

The perfect boomerang
To start, a light, well-balanced boomerang that returns even with little strength and practice is suitable. Our beginner boomerangs have been optimized by the world champion and are made precisely for this first success.

You should pay attention to the following before each throw:
Wind: Double-check – it may have changed direction since your last throw. Throw 45–90° against it.
Angle: Hold it almost vertically, not horizontally like a frisbee.
Throw: Aim just slightly above the horizon, not towards the sky.
The boomerang isn't coming back?
You're watching what the boomerang does in flight, we'll give you the solution...
Rises vertically like a rocket
Der Abwurfwinkel war zu horizontal, und die Flugkurve wird dadurch in den Himmel gerichtet.
-> Nächstes Mal senkrechter halten beim Abwerfen. (0° bis 20° / Auf 12 bis 2 Uhr)
Crashes halfway through
It was thrown with too little force and spin, or the launch angle was tilted too much towards you.
-> Throw with more force and add more spin with your wrist. Hold the boomerang tilted a little more to the right.
Land far to your right or left
Wrong angle to the wind. If it lands to your right, turn more to the left; if it lands to your left, more to the right.
Lands behind you

If throwing a boomerang feels more like a running sport at first, that's completely normal. It also took us many tries until we really got the hang of throwing, but that's also the appeal. You'll get it, we're sure of it!
Before throwing
- Warning! Read the instructions and safety information carefully before use, keep them for future reference, and include them when passing on the boomerang.
- Please note the age recommendation for the boomerang model.
- Children should only throw under the direct supervision of adults.
- Only throw when weather conditions permit. Strong wind, in particular, is dangerous, as a boomerang can significantly stray from its path and crash uncontrollably.
When throwing
- Only throw on open and flat surfaces without obstacles (neither stationary nor living).
- Make sure that no one is within the throwing radius.
- Always throw individually and in turn. Those not throwing should always stand behind the thrower at a safe distance and observe the boomerang.
- Keep an eye on the boomerang – and all spectators as well – from launch to catch (or landing). Never aim at eyes or face.
When catching
- Always catch the boomerang with a clapping motion next to your body – never in front of your face! If you are not yet confident in catching, let it fly by.
General information
- Boomerangs are sports equipment and require effort when throwing. Please be mindful of overexertion.
- Boomerangs have functionally sharp edges.
- Injuries from uncontrolled throwing are possible.
Have fun!
General rule: Only throw on soft ground like a meadow – that way the boomerang will last for years.
Over time, your boomerang may still show signs of wear and tear, such as small dents, scratches, or splinters on the wingtips. Don't worry – this does not reduce its flight performance. If you want to refresh it:
- Smooth out scratches and wear marks with fine sandpaper.
- Make it weatherproof again with a little wood oil, glaze, or thin varnish.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does a boomerang really come back?
Yes, of course our boomerangs return for beginners – but you do have to practice a little to master the throwing technique. Our shapes are optimized by the world champion, which ensures a reliable return. The rest is up to you: with our 5-step guide and a little practice, you'll succeed on your very first attempts.
How long does it take until I can catch him?
The rough return usually works after just a few throws. Precise returning and secure catching usually require a bit more practice, often a few attempts on different windy days. Follow our instructions precisely and check out our tips if it doesn't work out; then you should be able to catch your first boomerang after a few days. What a feeling of happiness!
Is throwing a boomerang dangerous?
Boomerang throwing is generally safe if you follow the safety instructions. Our boomerangs are specifically optimized for weight and size – they are surprisingly light and have just the right size for a fast, controlled return flight. Nevertheless, always keep a safe distance from other people, throw in open terrain without obstacles, and only let children throw under supervision. You can find all the details in our safety instructions above.
How much space do I need to throw a boomerang?
Ideally, an open meadow, sports field, or a field with at least a 30-40 meter radius around you, free of trees, paths, or parked cars. Depending on the model, our boomerangs can fly up to 25 meters – so some buffer on all sides is important.
Does a boomerang work in still air?
A very light breeze is ideal, but it will fly back even in almost no wind. Only strong or gusty winds make it difficult and dangerous.
Why does a boomerang actually come back?
This is due to the special wing shape and the rotation during the throw – the so-called gyroscopic effect. We have optimized our boomerang shapes through many test series to ensure reliable returns. We explain the physics behind it in detail in a dedicated blog article.
Which boomerang is suitable for beginners?
Our beginner models Munich and New York are particularly easy to throw and catch – suitable for ages 8 and 10 and up respectively. Their shapes have been optimized by the world champion to ensure that even the first throw is successful. To the beginner models.
Can left-handers also throw?
Absolutely! The process is identical, just mirrored. For the best experience, there are special left-handed boomerangs – each one comes with suitable left-handed instructions from us.
